16:15:11 On the Everton page right now is a video of Everton thrashing Leicester 5-1 during 1986-87, which was our last Championship-winning season. It's worth a watch. I didn't realize Paul Wilkinson was already in double figures before the New Year, but it was Sheedy who was pulling the strings around this period, and his sublime chip still lives in my memory, even though it's nearly 36 years since he put the icing on the cake after giving a fine exhibition of how to find space whilst playing as a central midfielder.
You cannot do without either to compete in the Premier League. Leicester will be a very tough opponent to beat as they are now back on their best form. I want us to start Patterson as his pace will be needed and he's more of a threat going forward, even though Seamus can do a capable job. I want us to get to a nice comfy top-half 20 points before the Blatter Bribefest in Qatar. This will be a great opportunity to demonstrate just how much we've improved as a team. Calvert-Lewin and Gordon to score. 16:32:34 I like it Rob 9, been waiting for that all season.
Iwobi helping McNeil get free for the cross obviously. 16:42:06 Dave, Fireworks! There you go, I knew there was a reason for my confidence. I think the last time we won 6-0 was under Walter Smith against WHU if the old memory is holding up. 16:54:00 I would tweak the team, I would start with Patterson for Coleman if fit, switch Gray for McNeil, and bring Garner or Doucouré in for Gueye, give the three dropped some respite.
We're Everton and playing at Goodison. Two clean sheets and 4 points from the last 2 games against tricky opponents. We're tough to beat and they won't be looking forward to this one. There's no reason we shouldn't go into this expecting the 3 points. I am. I understand everyone's nervousness and apprehension given last season's traumatic experience, but come on. I don't get this talk of survival. Win our next 2 winnable league matches and we're right up that table before the World Cup. This league is wide open.
Article continues below video content They still boast dangerous players in the form of James Maddison, Harvey Barnes and Youri Tielemans and while Jamie Vardy isn’t as prolific as he used to be, he carries an ever-present goal threat that will keep the Blues’ in-form central defensive pairing of James Tarkowski and Conor Coady focused. Everton’s defensive options look likely to be boosted by the return to fitness of Yerry Mina after more than two months out through injury while Ben Godfrey is also back full training.
Probably start with the same starting 11 though from previous games. 17:00:30 Kieran, it was, I was at the match with a West Ham fan from work, wasn't his best day. Super Kev got a hat-trick. On thrashings yes they are rare for us blues. Moyes 7-1 v Fulham, Yakubu hat-trick and didn't a Marco Silva Everton beat Man Utd by 4 or 5? I'm sure we must have given someone a hiding with Lukaku. 17:35:48 Gray doesn't deserve to be dropped in my opinion, he's a more attacking threat than Gordon at the moment, and Calvert-Lewin should have buried his cross against Fulham.

The latter is unlikely to feature this weekend but Mina could well be in the matchday squad where he faces an uphill battle to reclaim what used to be an automatic starting role when fit. The Colombian has long been regarded as the Toffees’ best centre half and while there may still be merit to that assessment, Coady and Tarkowski have struck up such an effective partnership that it seems unthinkable that Frank Lampard might break it up unless forced to. Mina may have to wait until the trip to Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday to get a spot in the starting XI.
Everton vs Leicester CityMatch Preview Everton play their final home game before the Premier League goes on hiatus for the 2022 World Cup and it will be under the lights in L4 as improving Leicester City come to Goodison Park. The Foxes appeared to be in crisis a few short weeks ago with Brendan Rodgers looking defeated and seemingly on the brink of losing his job following their 6-2 drubbing at the hands of Tottenham at the end of September.

The last time Everton played at home on Bommy night (I think) would do for me, when we came from two goals down to beat Watford during Unsworth's spell in charge 16:19:29 I'd steer well clear of selecting Mina, even for the bench. There's been too many instances of him pulling up injured. Maybe use him for the cup game. Personally, I'd take any offer that comes in January for both Mina and Keane. Keane lacks Mina's mental strength and Mina lacks Keane's basic fitness.
